INT. CARL'S HOME - EVENING

Carl comes through the front door.

CARL

It's me, father, I'm home.

He hangs up his jacket in a cupboard, and hangs up his keys in a small key cupboard, on a hook marked “Carl's keyring”. Other hooks are also marked similarly.

Carl then walks into the living room and sees his father.

CARL

Hey, what's this, father?

Vera sneaks up behind Carl, grabs him by the hair, and puts a kitchen knife on his throat.

VERA

Be very quiet or I'll hurt you.

CARL

What wrong with my father?

VERA

Nothing. I just gave him some sleeping pills.

CARL

What's going on?

VERA

Shut up. You will do exactly as I say. If you don't, I'll hurt you, and I'll hurt your father. I'm bigger and stronger than you, you know you can't stop me.

CARL

You'll be sorry for this.

VERA
(Interrupting)

I told you to shut up, you cretin. Now get on your knees and put your hands behind your back.

Carl obeys, and Vera ties his hands with a tie wrap. She then drags him up and along from one arm, half-carrying him down the stairs to the basement.
